Shape checks are geometry, so they cannot go stale. Length limits can, and do: Stories stopped chopping clips every 15 seconds, and Reels now accept far more than the three minutes still quoted everywhere. Where a number could not be stood behind it was left out rather than guessed, and the review date sits with the results.
Common questions
- Is my video uploaded anywhere?
- No. Your browser's own decoder reports four numbers (width, height, length, size) and the reference is then thrown away. Turn off your network and the page still works.
- Why can't it crop or resize the video for me?
- Because this page only reads. Re-encoding in a browser tab is slow, loses quality, and fails on exactly the files it already cannot decode. A desktop editor or Synapse's Studio does it properly.
- It says my browser can't read the file. What now?
- That is usually a codec, not a broken file. Camera .mov files are often ProRes or HEVC, which most browsers will not decode. Another browser sometimes works, and your editor's export dialog shows the same numbers.
- Are these numbers current?
- The shape checks are arithmetic and cannot go stale. The length limits are policy and do move, so they are written as approximate and were last reviewed on 16 August 2026.
- Which shape should I export if it's going everywhere?
- 9:16 for full-screen feeds: Reels, Shorts, TikTok and Stories all use it. 4:5 for a feed post, the tallest shape kept without cropping. 1:1 if you genuinely do not know. 16:9 only for horizontal.
